Nose slightly sweet, vanilla
Palate: spicy peaty notes, salted caramel, oily sweetness, tropical fruits, pepper, oak, vanilla.
Finish: Long-lasting, dry. Vanilla, spicy-sweet wood.
After fermentation, distillation is carried out with naturally grown yeast. The journey through the Caribbean and back to Amsterdam, during which the rum was exposed to different temperature zones and the salty sea environment, gives this excellent rum its distinctive finish. Constant ship movement and no emissions make it unique as "Fairtransport."
The labels are decorated with motifs of the Tres Hombres and their voyages. The design with the small handle (large bottles) is reminiscent of old maritime times. The bottles were sealed with natural corks and beeswax. The wax is mixed with color pigments made from natural raw materials and ground in a traditional windmill in Zaandam.

Since 2009, the 3 captains have been sailing across the Atlantic with a small core crew as well as many rotating trainees, trading as people did 150 years ago. Without a motor, electricity, or navigation equipment, they set off on the multi-week journey from their home port of Amsterdam with a fully loaded cargo hold. On the way to the Caribbean, they pick up stockfish in Norway, olives and olive oil in France, and port wine or Madeira in Portugal.
Once they arrive in the Caribbean, all cargo is sold in various ports, simply to make room in the hold again.
After that, they continue on to various distilleries, where rum in oak barrels as well as cocoa and coffee beans are loaded in the traditional way. Back in Amsterdam, these liquid treasures are bottled, sealed, and labeled by hand.
What makes these bottlings special is the limited quantity. As in the past, only what is actually available is bottled. On the one hand, there is only room on board for approx. 16-22 barrels (depending on size). On the other hand, no blends are tailored to specific flavor profiles, so each edition has its own very special appeal. This makes Tres Hombres rum a true collector's item!
A captain would not be a real captain if he did not pick out the best pieces from his own cargo hold, and so every year there are a few bottles of the so-called Captain's Choice bottlings - straight from the barrel into the stoneware bottle, naturally at cask strength!
Typical destinations of the Tres Hombres, which are regularly called at, are the Canary Island of La Palma as well as Barbados, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. Bottlings from Marie Galante, the neighboring island of Guadeloupe, are especially rare!
