Edition 48 from Tres Hombres comes from Oliver & Oliver in the Dominican Republic. The journey of the Tres Hombres began there over 11 years ago, and since then there has been a bottling from the Dominican Republic every year. For the 2021 bottling, several casks were selected that matured for 18 years using the Solera method in the Dominican Republic. The rum then underwent a second maturation process for a further 4 months on board the Tres Hombres in former sherry, port, and wine casks. This elaborate finish rounds off the rum perfectly and ensures an incomparable viscosity on the palate.

Since 2009, the 3 captains have been sailing across the Atlantic with a small core crew as well as numerous changing trainees, trading as they did 150 years ago. Without a motor, electricity, or navigation equipment, they set off on the weeks-long journey from their home port of Amsterdam with a fully loaded cargo hold. On the way to the Caribbean, stockfish is collected in Norway, olives and olive oil in France, and port or Madeira in Portugal.
Once they arrive in the Caribbean, all cargo is sold in various ports, simply to make room in the hold again.
After that, they continue on to various distilleries, where rum in oak barrels as well as cocoa and coffee beans are loaded in the traditional way. Back in Amsterdam, these liquid treasures are then bottled, sealed, and labeled by hand.
What makes these bottlings special is the limited quantities. Just like in the old days, only what is actually available is bottled. On the one hand, there is only space on board for approx. 16-22 barrels (depending on size). On the other hand, no blends are tailored to specific flavor characteristics, so each edition has its own very special appeal. This makes Tres Hombres rum true collector's items!
A captain would not be a real captain if he did not pick out the best pieces from his cargo hold himself, and that is why there are a few bottles of the so-called Captains Choice bottlings every year - straight from the cask into the stoneware bottle, naturally at cask strength!
Typical destinations of the Tres Hombres, which are regularly visited, are the Canary Island of La Palma as well as Barbados, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. Bottlings from Marie Galante, the neighboring island of Guadeloupe, are especially rare!
