Nose:  orange marmalade, wood polish, tar, pear compote and toasted oak. 

Palate: buttery-soft mouthfeel, wood, citrus, orange blossom, full-bodied molasses. 

Finish: Marzipan, tar a little smoke

This jewel was distilled from molasses in 1998 in the Bellevue Le Moule column still. The first 7 of a total of 24 years he spent in a French oak cask on Guadeloupe; the remaining 17 years he matured further in an American oak cask in Liverpool. The Royal Cane Guadeloupe 1998 Rum was bottled in 2022 at 51,5% vol. 

Tasting notes

This rum has a deep dark amber hue with distinct aromas of wood polish, tar, orange marmalade, stewed pears, and charred oak. It has a buttery texture and the palate reveals more wood influence and jammy citrus notes, along with hints of orange blossom, and rich molasses. The finish is long and complex where fruity notes give way to marzipan, petrol, tar and a wisp of smoke.

History of the Cask

A very unique French Style Rum from Guadeloupe. It is distilled from molasses, as opposed to sugar cane juice as one could expect from a French overseas rum. The Rum was distilled in 1998 after which it was filled into a French oak cask at the distillery and matured in the tropical climate of Guadeloupe for 7 years. In 2005 the rum traveled the Atlantic Ocean towards the United Kingdom, and was re-casked into an American white oak cask before another 17 years of further maturation in the historic docks of Liverpool. A truly unique and sublime rum.
