Nose: maritime aromas with tropical fruitiness. Seaweed and sea breeze, fresh citrus notes.  Mango, sugarcane, exotic spices. 

Palate: smooth and oily, sweet-fruity, saline minerality, citrus fruits, vanilla, spices and a subtle spiciness 

Finish: medium-length, spicy, bittersweet, typical character of the western Highlands and the vibrant influences of the Caribbean.

The Oban Distillery was founded in 1794 by the brothers Hugh and John Stevenson and is considered one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. It emerged at the port of the small town of Oban on the west coast of the Highlands, which developed around the distillery in the years that followed. In the 19th century, the distillery changed hands several times and was modernized, but it always remained relatively small. Even today, it still works with only two stills.  After being shut down in the 1930s, Oban resumed production in the 1960s. Today, the distillery belongs to the Diageo group and is part of the “Classic Malts of Scotland.” The Oban Distillery combines the sweet-malty elegance of the Highlands with maritime and lightly smoky notes of island whiskies.

The Oban 11 Years “The Soul of Calypso” Special Release 2023 is a limited release from Diageo's Spirited Xchange range. The whisky matured conventionally at first, but then received a finish in Caribbean pot still rum casks and was bottled at cask strength with 58 % vol.
