Indigo is matured for at least 8 years in ex-bourbon barrels made from American white oak.
Wonderful notes of hazelnut, caramel, dark chocolate, and lemongrass form the backbone of its aroma. Intricately detailed bottle decorations tell of El Salvador's Mayan heritage. This rum is ideal for enjoying neat as an easy-drinking sipping rum. Since December 2020, the Cihuatán brand has appeared in a completely new brand design. Cihuatán Indigo 8YO is the successor to Cihuatán 8 Solera Gran Reserva Rum.  Cihuatán Indigo Rum El Salvador 8YO is a tribute to the Mayan god of rain, Tlaloc, who in Mayan mythology makes the valley bloom. Indigo blue is considered Tlaloc's sacred color, which the indigenous peoples of Central America produced with the help of the añil indigo flower. To this day, the shade represents an important symbol of El Salvador.  Cihuatán - The first and only rum from El Salvador. Cihuatán means "beside the woman" and comes from Mayan culture, whose archaeological traces can be visited not far from the distillery and live on in the lovingly designed bottle artwork of the Cihuatán expressions. With the distillates conceived by master blender Gabriela Ayala, Cihuatán aims to capture the taste and character of its homeland in the bottle, representing El Salvador in the world of spirits as a liquid ambassador. The rums of this Central American distillery are brought to life entirely in-house on the grounds of Licorera Cihuatán, from the cultivation and harvest of the sugarcane through distillation to bottling and aging. In this way, the producer seeks to meet its high quality standards, which are reflected in the impressive aromas of its rum varieties. With the two refined core expressions, Indigo 8YO and Cinabrio 12YO as well as the magnificent newcomers Sahumerio and Xaman the family business seamlessly builds on past successes and raises the bar even further in both appearance and taste.   During its maturation of at least 8 years, Cihuatán Indigo develops into a complex, balanced rum with layered aromatic structure. Pleasantly soft notes of hazelnut and dulce de leche (a cream made from milk, sugar, and vanilla), along with striking hints of dark chocolate, are complemented by touches of lemongrass and subtle vanilla. The locally grown coffee leaves its mark in the form of a fine cappuccino note. This multi-faceted flavor ensemble leads into a slightly smoky finish and lingers long in the memory. Smooth and creamy, Cihuatán Indigo Rum 8YO is especially suited to being enjoyed neat or over ice.
