Longrow: Intensely smoky and heavily peated: Longrow is the successful experiment of Springbank chairman Hedley Wright, who produced an Islay-style malt on the mainland in 1973 – the result was a whisky rarity that has been bottled once a year since 1989. Longrow is distilled twice and is unmistakable for its strong smoky note, created by two days of kilning with Islay peat. Longrow Single Malt actually comes from a different line: the former Longrow Distillery was founded as early as 1824 by John Beith & Co., but closed its doors again after only a little more than 70 years. In 1973, the legend was revived here and a Longrow was produced again for the first time according to an old secret recipe.
