Christian Drouin’s Experimental range has already explored several major rum regions – including Jamaica, Barbados, Martinique, and Trinidad and Tobago. For the new Savanna Angels, the Calvados institution chose Réunion Island.

On the volcanic island in the Indian Ocean, the Savanna distillery has been producing distinctive rums since 1870: Grand Arôme, Agricole, and Rhum Traditionnel. Unusual for the French overseas departments, the latter is distilled from molasses. The apple distillers from Normandy selected casks that had held Rhum Traditionnel for between nine and 14 years for their latest experiment.

Savanna Angels is based on a 17-year-old Calvados Pays d'Auge – rich, powerful, and with notes of roasted apples. It was then matured for between six and nine months in former Savanna casks.

Anyone lucky enough to get one of the 2,046 bottles can expect a full-bodied and powerful combination of the aromas of a rum antique and one of Normandy’s finest eaux-de-vie.

Maison Drouin is an institution in the Calvados industry. The Norman brandy made from organic dessert apples matures in a variety of different, mostly smaller oak casks, with the oldest vintages dating back to 1939.
