Collection: Transcontinental Line Brand Rum
From Panama back to Bremerhaven in just one day. Possible today – unthinkable 60 years ago. With the luxurious Atlantic liners, it took almost a week. Plenty of time to drift and enjoy the journey – for example, on deck with a good glass of rum, while entire barrels crossed the ocean below. The "Transcontinental Rum Line" with its selected overseas rums, perfected in Europe, is a tribute to this era of glamorous travel. George Bénitah always had a sense for trends: in 1956 he founded the spirits import business "La Maison du Whisky" – at a time when whisky hardly received any attention among his French compatriots. Meanwhile, the spirits house is one of the most well-known in the world. In 2016, the company added premium rum to its portfolio and has since made a name for itself here as an independent bottler. The rums of the "Transcontinental Rum Line" come, among others, from Barbados, Belize, or the Fiji Islands. What they have in common: they all initially mature in oak barrels in their country of origin – at tropical temperatures for a fast, intense maturation and strong aromas. After shipping to the French bottler, the rums mature again for up to two years in a continental climate. This gives them additional complexity. All rums in the line are free of additives and are not chill-filtered. The bottle label provides additional information about the distillation and bottling date as well as the aging period of the respective rum.
