Kavalan Brand Whisky Taiwan

KAVALAN Pure Taste, True Taiwan. The KAVALAN distillery is part of the Taiwanese family-owned King Car Group. It was founded in 2006 as Taiwan's first private distillery by Tian-Tsai Lee. The distillery is located southeast of Taipei in the Yilan region, which is nationally known primarily for its fresh and clean springs originating from the nearby Snow Mountains. The name KAVALAN refers to the indigenous people of this region, thus paying high respect to them.
The first KAVALAN Single Malt, presented in Taiwan in 2008, was the first premium whisky "Made in Taiwan" and was met with great enthusiasm by the public. Since then, it has been one of the best-selling single malts in the domestic market. Today, the KAVALAN distillery is led by Yu-Ting Lee, the son of founder Tian-Tsai Lee. With its numerous awards, KAVALAN belongs to the select group of distilleries with worldwide recognition. An important role in the distillery's history, alongside Tian-Tsai Lee, is played by the renowned whisky expert and consultant Dr. Jim Swan. With his expertise, the KAVALAN distilling team succeeded in producing first-class whisky under subtropical climate conditions, which quickly gained international acclaim. Taiwan's subtropical climate greatly accelerates the maturation process of KAVALAN whiskies. The Angels’ Share in Taiwan is four to five times higher than the Scottish average, making long aging periods nearly impossible. Therefore, KAVALAN does not use age statements. The uniqueness of the whiskies is achieved through the interplay of warmth and high humidity, the use of first-class casks, and careful attention to the right maturation level.
