Nose:   lots of treacle tart, along with juicy sultanas, overripe nectarines, plum. Zesty lemon, clementines, marzipan, ginger, dry turmeric 

Palate:  Soft and silky. A light touch of caramel that turns into sweet, jammy summer fruits like peach and even more plum.

Finish: Compact black tea with warm, lingering ginger and pepper.

FOURSQUARE EQUIDEM is the latest limited edition bottling from the Foursquare Rum Distillery in St. Phillip, Barbados. The twenty-seventh release (Mark XXVII) in the Exceptional Cask Selection continues the award-winning vintage series into 2025! And please forgive the following pun: EQUIDEM is "truly" the excellent rum that experts and enthusiasts have now come to expect from the team at FOURSQUARE RUM DISTILLERY.  Exciting: this bottling is the first release from FOURSQUARE RUM DISTILLERY to contain rum matured in Ex-Black Muscat casks*. More precisely, it is a blend of two matured rums: a double maturation that began with five years in an Ex-Bourbon cask and was then allowed to enjoy a further 9 years of maturation in an Ex-Black Muscat cask. This double maturation was then married with a fourteen-year-old Ex-Bourbon cask rum.

EQUIDEM is a Single Blended Rum, meaning a blend of heavy and light marques distilled on the copper Double Retort Pot Stills and Continuous Twin-Column Stills of FOURSQUARE RUM DISTILLERY. This outstanding rum was matured, blended, and bottled on site.

* The Black Muscat casks come from a winery in Roussillon, France.

Award RUM PRODUCER OF THE YEAR 2024. The Foursquare Distillery, owned by the Seale family, can trace its roots in Barbados back to the 1650s and looks back on five generations of rum making. However, the founding of the Foursquare brand came much later. While the family could lay claim to one of the oldest trading houses in Barbados, Reginald Leon Seale, like other merchants, was prohibited by the Barbados consumer law from selling rum directly to consumers. His solution to this issue was to establish a distribution company in Bridgetown in the early 1900s - and that was the birth of the R. L. Seale brand. R. L. Seale was not the only merchant to adopt this approach, but he was one of the few successful ones. This prosperity offered the opportunity for expansion, and from 1962 to 1993, the rum portfolios of ESA Field and Alleyne Arthur were acquired, including Old Brigand, Taylor's Falernum, and Doorly's. To consolidate the various brands effectively, it was decided that ESA Field and Old Brigand would focus on the local market, where they had always performed well, while Doorly's would become an export brand. This remained the case until 1995, when the company, under the leadership of Sir David Seale at the time, opted to purchase a sugar factory whose oldest building dates back to 1636 and had largely fallen into disrepair. His intuition paid off, however, and that site became the Foursquare Distillery. Today, it is regarded as one of the most efficient and modern rum distilleries of all, complete with a state-of-the-art bottling plant on site. The distillery has a three-column column still, which it uses for lighter rums, and a modern pot still, which is used for heavier rums. Distillation is done from fermented molasses in small batches (usually 112 barrels) and then tropically aged. The rums are matured in small American white oak Ex-Bourbon casks in huge open warehouses, most of which come from an unnamed (but famous) distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
