An intense 48 hour peat drying process in the kiln & double distillation makes the Longrow range more heavily peated & oily in character. Longrow: Intensely smoky and heavily peated: Longrow is the successful experiment of Springbank chairman Hedley Wright, who in 1973 produced a mainland malt in the Islay style – the result was a rare whisky that has been bottled once a year since 1989. Longrow passes through the stills twice and is unmistakable for its strong smoky note, created by two days of kiln drying with Islay peat.  Incidentally, the Longrow Single Malt comes from a different lineage: the former Longrow Distillery was founded as early as 1824 by John Beith & Co., but closed its doors again after only a little more than 70 years. In 1973, the legend was revived here and a Longrow was produced once again for the first time according to the old secret recipe.  
Original tasting notes Nose: This year’s Longrow 18 kicks off with notes of blackberry jam, walnuts, liquorice and a subtle smokiness on the nose. Palate: The peat smoke continues on the palate and notes of Black Forest gateau, maraschino cherries, dates and dark chocolate ganache are introduced. Finish: A long, gentle finish, there are notes of coffee beans, sea salt and peat smoke. Scotland’s oldest continuously family-owned distillery: Springbank.
