The Glen Scotia distillery is located on the Kintyre peninsula, more precisely in Campbeltown. In 1832, the distillery was founded by Steward, Galbraith & Co. under the name Scotia Distillery and has had an eventful history ever since. Glenscotia With its lively backdrop and the harsh Atlantic breeze, this coastal town has something magical about it. "Mull of Kintyre, oh mist rolling in from the sea, my desire is always to be here ..." Paul McCartney sings of the desire to always remain on this peninsula. Presumably, it's not only the mystical allure of the landscape that's a good reason for that - but also the unique single malt produced here. 

Records as far back as the 1800’s show that Campbeltown, like much of Scotland, has enjoyed a long-standing love affair with the use of sherry casks in whisky maturation. Given it's fortunate location on the West Coast of Scotland and ease of access to the sea trading routes of the time, it is hardly surprising that Campbeltown enjoyed the first choice of some of the finest sherry casks in the world. So it is fitting that one of our oldest and most refined expressions, the Glen Scotia 18-year-old, enjoys a lengthy twelve-month finish in Oloroso sherry casks, delivering a floral sweetness whilst never masking the renowned distillery character that lies beneath.
