This agricole rum is distilled exclusively from freshly pressed sugar cane juice and matured for seven years in Madeira brandy casks. This limited special edition, consisting of 3,652 numbered bottles, was distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2023. Of these, we were able to secure 120 bottles for the German market. Bright and golden in color, it shimmers with pale and greenish nuances that hint at aromas of candied oranges and spices. In vivid contrast, there are notes of dried apricot, vanilla, and pepper, as well as salted caramel, giving this rich Rum Agricola da Madeira a full-bodied and remarkably fresh finish with plenty of character.

The volcanic island of Madeira lies off the northwest coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean and belongs to Portugal. Sugar cane was first cultivated on the archipelago in the 15th century, at the same time as settlement began. The island was long considered a sugar supplier for Europe. Engenhos do Norte is located on Madeira's north coast. The basalt stone building, constructed in 1927 with its 26-meter-high chimney made of red brick, blends perfectly into the rugged coastal scenery. Inside the distillery, you feel transported back to the 1930s. A steam engine, fueled by the so-called bagasse, drives the sugar cane press. The fresh sugar cane juice is then fermented with yeast and distilled in an old column still distillation plant. This agricole rum is distilled exclusively from freshly pressed sugar cane juice and matured in Madeira wine casks. This single cask edition, distilled in 2015 and bottled in 2022, is a unique batch of agricole rum, matured in oak casks and bottled straight from the cask without additives. From the island of Madeira, rhum agricole made from sugar cane juice,  produced in the French overseas territories, in a limited edition. Madeira Single Cask Selected  single cask bottling in a limited edition premium rum produced in Portugal and bottled at cask strength.  J. Faria & Filhos from Calheta on Madeira are  known as Madeira producers. Although they have been in existence for over 60 years, J. Faria & Filhos, Lda. only started producing  Madeira under their own name at a late stage. ..after a merger with Madeira producer PE Gonçalves, who also operated rather anonymously.  The new company makes Madeira using the estufagem and canteiro process. In particular, three-year-old and five-year-old Madeiras are made from Tinta Negra Mole grapes. Madeira brands are "J.Faria & Filhos", "Faria & Filhos", "PE Gonçalves", "Zarco", "Nau Santa Maria de Colombo", or "Pingo Doce".  Engenhos de Calheta is located on the island's south coast in Porto da Cruz and has a sugar cane press operated by three old mills. Electric today, no longer steam-powered. The island's humid subtropical climate mainly causes water to evaporate during maturation, while the alcohol content usually changes little. The rums are also said to have a salty side because of their proximity to the sea. J. Faria & Filhos have been producing quality rum for 40 years. Some vintages are 30 years old. Engenhos do Norte is a rum distillery in Porto da Cruz. The town lies in the east of the stunningly beautiful island of Madeira. Only agricole rum is produced there, meaning rum made from fresh sugar cane juice. The combination of the region's traditional technology and experience passed down through generations results in high-quality products with unique characteristics. "Rum da Madeira", known on Madeira as "Aguardente de Cana", belongs to the special category of agricole rum and accounts for about 3 % of global rum production. The remaining share is made from molasses. At the distillery, the pure sugar cane juice is distilled using the well-known column still process. According to European spirits regulations, the island's rum may be called "Rhum Agricole" because it was made from pure sugar cane juice. Around 172 hectares of sugar cane are planted annually on Madeira.
