The Foursquare 15 Years Old Exceptional Cask SELECTION MARK XXX PENULTIMUS 2025 57% vol. 0.7 l is an exceptional and strictly limited bottling from the renowned Exceptional Cask Selection of the legendary Foursquare Distillery in Barbados. Under the direction of Master Distiller Richard Seale, Foursquare is one of the world's most respected rum producers and is known for uncompromising quality, traditional production, and the complete absence of added sugar, colorings, or other additives. The MARK XXX PENULTIMUS edition holds a special place within the series, as it is the first bottling from Foursquare in which Spanish Moscatel wine casks were used for maturation.

This exceptional single blended rum is created from a marriage of pot still and column still distillates that were initially matured for over ten years in ex-bourbon casks. This was followed by a further five-year finish in ex-Moscatel casks, resulting in a total maturation period of 15 years. The rare combination of American oak and the sweet influence of the Spanish Moscatel wine casks gives the rum impressive depth and elegance. Foursquare Penultimus was bottled in December 2025 at a robust 57% vol., without chill filtration and without the addition of colorings or sweeteners. The result is an authentic premium Barbados rum that perfectly reflects the distillery's signature style.

The Foursquare Distillery is located on the grounds of a former 17th-century sugar cane plantation. Richard Seale runs the family business in the fourth generation and, as master blender, places special emphasis on a modern, quality-focused approach. Richard Seale is considered one of the region's most innovative rum specialists and is known for his perfectly balanced and particularly flavor-intense rum expressions. The Foursquare distillery differs from most other Caribbean companies in that it is family-run. The focus is on traditional craftsmanship and has always formed the foundation of the company's philosophy. The Foursquare Distillery, which belongs to the Seale family, can trace its roots in Barbados back to the 1650s and can look back on five generations of rum production. However, the founding of the Foursquare brand came much later. While the family could lay claim to one of Barbados's oldest trading houses, Reginald Leon Seale, like other merchants, was forbidden by the Barbados consumer law from selling rum directly to consumers. His way of addressing this was to establish a distribution company in Bridgetown in the early 1900s - and that was the birth of the R. L. Seale brand. R. L. Seale was not the only merchant to adopt this approach, but he was one of the few successful ones. This prosperity provided the opportunity for expansion, and from 1962 to 1993, the rum portfolios of ESA Field and Alleyne Arthur were acquired, including Old Brigand, Taylor's Falernum, and Doorly's. So that the various brands could be effectively consolidated, it was decided that ESA Field and Old Brigand would focus on the local market, where they had always performed well, while Doorly's would become an export brand.

This remained the case until 1995, when the company, under the leadership of Sir David Seale at the time, opted to purchase a sugar factory whose oldest building dates back to 1636 and was largely in ruins. However, his intuition paid off, and this site became the Foursquare Distillery. Today, it is regarded as one of the most efficient and modern rum distilleries of all, complete with a state-of-the-art bottling facility on site. The distillery has a three-column still, which it uses for lighter rums, and a modern pot still, which is used for heavier rums. Distillation is carried out from fermented molasses in small batches (usually 112 barrels) and then tropical aging follows. The rums are matured in small American white oak ex-bourbon casks in huge open warehouses, most of which come from an unnamed (but famous) distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
