The Blanton's brand was introduced in 1984 under the leadership of the distillery's master distiller, Elmer T. Lee, as the first modern bourbon brand marketed as a Single Barrel Bourbon. "Blanton Single Barrel Bourbon" was the original name of the brand.
A Single Barrel Bourbon from Blanton's is a bourbon where the contents of only one specific aging barrel are used to produce each batch for bottling, and it is not blended with whiskey from other barrels (and not mixed with neutral spirits, colorings, or flavorings).
The company claims that applying this production method requires regular monitoring of each barrel in the middle of the warehouse by the master distiller to produce a high-quality whiskey. The barrels are emptied manually without the use of machines.
