About Ardanhoe. : With this first release, "The Inaugural Release," the Laing family's long-cherished wish of producing their own single malt Scotch whisky on the magical island of Islay comes true, shaped by the three generations of the Laing family, which has been an important part of the whisky industry since 1940. Stewart Laing and his sons Andrew and Scott had long dreamed of opening their own distillery, and in October 2018 the dream became reality when the first cask, numbered 001, was filled. Distillery manager Fraser Hughes created the first generation of Ardnahoe using traditional methods: softly peated Islay water is drawn from nearby Loch Ardnahoe, while the distillery uses two traditional worm tubs - the only one on Islay to do so. These were chosen to give the malt additional depth and complexity of flavor. First release - The beginning of Ardnahoe. The Inaugural Release matured for 5 years in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks and was bottled at Ardnahoe's preferred alcohol strength of 50.0 % with no chill filtration, no added coloring, and no sugar. On the nose, this exclusive single malt has aromas of shortbread, baked apples, and Islay peat smoke. On the palate it has vanilla cream, ginger, lemon peel, and baked apples, ending in a long and smoky finish. The cask selection of Ardnahoe Distillery is of great importance. The bourbon casks come directly from the USA and are made from American white oak, and the Oloroso sherry casks, sourced directly from Jerez, are made from European oak.
