Savanna Rhum Distillery

The Savanna distillery was originally founded in the town of Saint Paul and can look back on a long tradition of rum production. In 1992, the distillery moved next to the sugar factory in Saint André. Thanks to the modernization of the distillery, Savanna became the first European rum distillery to be certified to ISO 9002. At the Savanna distillery, rum is traditionally produced using a column still process. Part of the production is matured in oak for several years to perfection. Molasses rum as well as Rhum Agricole are produced. The Grande Arome in particular have drawn attention. Since the 18th century, the Savanna distillery on La Reunion, an island in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar and belonging to France, has been producing the finest Rhum Agricoles and Grande Aromes rums. Column stills are used as production facilities for Rhum Traditionnel. Grand Arôme Rhum, on the other hand, can originate from pot stills or column stills. In the northern part of the island, the finest sugar cane is grown under perfect conditions, and the distillery founded in 1870 produces from it only in the period between July and November, using a Savalle column still and a pot still between July and November, around 300 hectoliters of rum per day. The rum intended for aging is then stored in casks made of Limousin or Allier oak.
