From Wales to the world...’ The Penderyn Distillery produces award-winning Single Malt Welsh Whiskies and spirits in the foothills of the magnificent Brecon Beacons mountain range in South Wales. The story of our brand. "In Wales, distilling was a lost art..." … but in the late 1990s, a group of friends sat together in a small post-industrial Welsh valley community; they drank and talked about founding the first whisky distillery in Wales in over a century. They dreamed of creating a whisky as pure and valuable as Welsh gold, which can still be seen today in Penderyn’s “golden rim.” The friends owned a building in the historic village of Penderyn at the southern tip of the Brecon Beacons mountain range. They chose this location because of the fresh, natural spring water available there. They also owned a unique copper still with a pot still designed by Dr. David Faraday, a relative of the great 19th-century scientist Michael Faraday. Penderyn Whisky was launched on St. David’s Day in 2004 in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Charles. At Penderyn, we produce our own malted barley spirit, which after maturation is praised worldwide as one of the finest Single Malt Whiskies. The majority of our spirits are filled into casks to mature in our warehouse. The rest we use to create other award-winning products. Through dedication, inspiration, hard work, attention to detail, as well as the finest barley, experienced distillers, and the best American oak bourbon casks, Penderyn Whisky quickly gained a worldwide reputation. It has since received numerous awards, and recently we have opened new markets in China, Russia, and Australia.
