The Real McCoy 10Y Limited Edition Virgin Oak single blended rum 46% vol. 0.7l Barbados Foursquare Distillery batch 2017 limited to 5,400 bottles, of which 300 are for Germany.
For this special Real McCoy blend, a slightly higher proportion of copper still distillate was used, giving it a richer flavor profile. In addition, the two batches that make up the rum were aged separately: the first batch spends twelve years in Bourbon barrels, while the second is matured for ten years in unused American oak barrels. The two rums are then carefully blended and bottled at a robust 46% vol. The The Real McCoy Limited Edition Rum 10 Years is a prime example of the authentic rum style for which Barbados is known and appreciated all over the world.
Nose: aromas of ripe bananas, toasted pecans, oak, and vanilla, surrounded by an overall fruity impression.
Palate: Notes of brown butter, toasted oak, vanilla, roasted almonds, and dried fruit with a hint of caramelized sugar.
Finish: long-lasting, with notes of dark buttered toast and plenty of oak.
About THE REAL McCOY
The Real McCoy Rum is based on the story of Captain Bill McCoy, a so-called rum runner from the Prohibition era. Around 1920, when strict alcohol prohibition was in force in the USA, Bill McCoy began transporting rum from the Caribbean to just off the coast of New York. As a shrewd businessman, he sold his rum in international waters. In doing so, he did not break any American laws, and the buyers bore the risk. He became known for his high quality standards, because at that time he was one of the few (if not the only one) who did not dilute his rum with other liquids.
In memory of Bill McCoy, his tradition lives on today. These high quality standards are upheld by none other than Richard Seale, master distiller of the Foursquare Distillery in Barbados.
R.L. Seale is respected worldwide for his outstanding work. He is no friend of dishonest products. His bottlings stand for honest craftsmanship that is not sweetened or perfumed, colored, or otherwise extended.
Furthermore, the age statements on his products always reflect the actual age and are therefore not blends with younger rum. Only different casks from the same vintage are married together - hence the designation Single Blended Rum (in this case, Single stands for one vintage and Blended for the different casks from that same vintage)
The Real McCoy is made from a combination of pot and column still distillate, with the dominant proportion always being pot still, which also sets it apart from the other bottlings, and it is aged between 3 and 12 years in ex-Bourbon casks. Exceptions are limited editions, for which maturation is also often carried out in, for example, Madeira casks.
