Nase: This example of Glen Scotia marries the best of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry to bring an interesting depth and character. Spiced rum, juicy plum, toffee and citrus peel on the nose.
Abgang: long, nutty and dry – a superb sherry influence with classic Campbeltown DNA.
Dieser Campbeltown Single Malt ist eine besondere Vermählung von separiert gereiften Ex-Oloroso-Sherry- und Pedro Ximénez-Fässern. Als besondere Note entschied sich Micheal Henry für seine abschließende Signature-Harmonisierung in 1st Fill Bourbon Casks, bevor der Single Malt in Batch Strength abgefüllt wurde. Durch den von Sherryfässern geprägten Charakter offenbart der Malt eine außergewöhnlich vielschichtige Aromatik, die perfekt mit dem typischen Campbeltown-Stil –fruity, oily & seaspray – harmoniert.
Auf der Halbinsel Kintyre, genauer in Campbeltown, ist die Brennerei Glen Scotia ansässig. 1832 wurde die Brennerei von Steward, Galbraith & Co. unter dem Namen Scotia Distillery gegründet und hat seitdem eine ereignisreiche Geschichte hinter sich. Glenscotia Mit seiner lebendigen Kulisse und der rauen Atlantikbrise hat dieser Küstenort etwas Magisches. „Mull of Kintyre, oh mist rolling in from the sea, my desire is always to be here …“ Paul McCartney besingt den Wunsch, immer auf dieser Halbinsel zu bleiben. Vermutlich ist nicht nur die mystische Anziehungskraft der Landschaft ein guter Grund dafür – sondern auch der einzigartige Single Malt, der hier produziert wird.
Records as far back as the 1800’s show that Campbeltown, like much of Scotland, has enjoyed a long-standing love affair with the use of sherry casks in whisky maturation. Given it's fortunate location on the West Coast of Scotland and ease of access to the sea trading routes of the time, it is hardly surprising that Campbeltown enjoyed the first choice of some of the finest sherry casks in the world. So it is fitting that one of our oldest and most refined expressions, the Glen Scotia 18-year-old, enjoys a lengthy twelve-month finish in Oloroso sherry casks, delivering a floral sweetness whilst never masking the renowned distillery character that lies beneath.
