Collection: Topanito Brand Tequila Mexico
Tequila the Gift of the Gods
Topanito offers perhaps the broadest and most diverse portfolio of high-quality tequilas and mezcals – created for lovers of Mexican spirits, professional bartenders, as well as hobby mixologists with high standards. All 8 Topanito varieties are based on 100% agave quality made by traditional methods and stand out with a truly unparalleled price-performance ratio. The iconically simple bottle design of Topanito pays tribute to Mexico's Aztec heritage – and thus to the inventors of the original agave spirit. The Mexican Aztecs called the seat of their gods “Topan” and described tequila as the “gift from heaven.” With every sip, Topanito offers a small present from above and conjures the full range of agave diversity into the glass. ¡Salud!
The Distillery
Topanito Tequila 100% Agave is distilled at Destiladora Del Valle De Tequila, located in the small town of Tequila in the state of Jalisco. The distillery is also known as the legendary “Casa Maestri” and is the most awarded distillery in all of Mexico. The founders Celia and Michael Maestri together have over 70 years of experience in producing high-quality tequilas.
The Agaves
Only the best Blue Weber agaves from the Highlands and Lowlands around Jalisco are sourced from long-term supplier partners. During harvest, these are trimmed down to the “piñas” (the hearts) and then gently steam-cooked in traditional “hornos” – brick ovens – for 36-54 hours. This age-old art of “slow cooking” transforms carbohydrates into sugars, softens the fibers, and above all prevents unwanted caramelization of sugars. This best preserves the natural, sweet flavor profile. For Topanito, a full 50% of the agaves are cooked in these traditional hornos – the rest in modern autoclaves.
The Distillation
After cooking, the steamed piñas are further processed in molinos (mills). When grinding the fibers, the sugar-rich juice is pressed out while the fibers are rinsed with deionized, purified water. This sweet mash then ferments naturally with wild yeasts for 48-60 hours. The resulting agave wine has an alcohol content of 5 to 9% and a full-bodied agave flavor. Distillation takes place in traditional alembic stills (“pot still”) in two slow distillation processes, each lasting about 5 hours, enriching the aroma of the finished spirit.
