Collection: H.S.E.Habitation Brand Rum Saint Etienne HSE Rhum

Habitation Saint Etienne has a history spanning over 200 years.
The approximately 400-hectare estate is located inland on the island and is divided by the Lezard River. Due to the optimal soil conditions, the Habitation served as an important sugar supplier for France in the 19th century. Since 1882, Rhum Agricole has been distilled at the Habitation in a traditional Coffey Still (also called Creole Column Still). Until the 1970s, H.S.E. flourished and became a leading rum brand in Martinique. In 1979 and 1980, two hurricanes severely damaged the facility, forcing the complete halt of production at Habitation Saint Etienne.

The brand was only revived in 1994. Since then, the distillation process has taken place at the Distillerie du Simon. The rum is produced in the traditional way using steam engine heating, which has been in operation since 1934.

It crushes the sugarcane and presses out the fresh juice. After 48 hours of fermentation, this is distilled in the copper Creole Still. The aging, refinement, and bottling then take place by traditional handcraft at Habitation Saint Etienne.
