Nase: Amber. Very sweet. Initially it is all creme caramel, caramelised fruit sugars, wood sugar, toffee and fudge before some apple and peach come through. In time a charred note of bourbon with a pleasing dusty dryness. Has some power.

Gaumen: Sweet start and quite fat and though the alcohol gives a little tongue-tingling buzz the result is a good mid-palate weight. The dry distillery character is there still, but there is now depth to counter. Water slightly dismantles the different elements, but adds some dried mint.

Finish Deep and dark.

Evey carefully selected cask has been matured in first fill bourbon barrels before finishing this outstanding single malt whisky in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Deep amber in colour with caramel and toffee on the nose, as well as Glen Scotia sea spray. On the palate there is a perfect balance of rich spicy fruits, toffee and fudge and a dry finish with vanilla oak. Non-chill filtered. A true taste of Campbeltown.

Auf der Halbinsel Kintyre, genauer in Campbeltown, ist die Brennerei Glen Scotia ansässig. 1832 wurde die Brennerei von Steward, Galbraith & Co. unter dem Namen Scotia Distillery gegründet und hat seitdem eine ereignisreiche Geschichte hinter sich. Mit seiner lebendigen Kulisse und der rauen Atlantikbrise hat dieser Küstenort etwas Magisches. „Mull of Kintyre, oh mist rolling in from the sea, my desire is always to be here …“ Paul McCartney besingt den Wunsch, immer auf dieser Halbinsel zu bleiben. Vermutlich ist nicht nur die mystische Anziehungskraft der Landschaft ein guter Grund dafür – sondern auch der einzigartige Single Malt, der hier produziert wird.
